Letter from Recruit Lindsey

We received a letter from Zac yesterday! He is doing great! Here are excerpts from the letter. Continue to pray for his strength & endurance - both physically & mentally. His biggest request was letters. If you have a minute stick one in the mail for him.

"...sorry we don't have time to write yet. It's been a huge shock."

"...I have a long 11 weeks ahead of me, but in the end it'll be worth it."

"...We PT (physical training) every day in one way, shape or form...I can already tell the difference."

"...I miss you guys and home a lot, especially at lights out because that is the only time we have to think."

"...The chow here is actually pretty good, the only problem is that I'm always hungry - not because they don't give us enought to eat, we just burn on average 6000 calories a day."

"...we march or run every where we go. There is no walk(ing) that's for sure."

"...I'm reading the Bible every night. It is a great way to end the day, and they have an awesome Church here. I have met so many different people. "

"...oh yeah, please send stamps and envelopes. WRITE BACK PLEASE."

"... I love you guys, (signed) Recruit Lindsey"

We're all so proud of our Recruit!

Zac's Training Schedule

Thought you might like to see what Zac will be doing the next several weeks. This always makes it easier to know what to pray for and to kind of imagine what he's doing.
Oh - I will be saving all of this for Zac when he graduates, and he will get all the emails and comments everyone has been sending! Thanks - Stephanie

Letter From Staff Sergeant Freeman

"My name is Staff Sergeant Freeman. I am the Senior Drill Instructor for India Company Platoon 3069. My mission is to care for and train your young man for the next three months. I am responsible for leading and guiding this future Marine through the many challenging and demanding stages of training. I will ensure that he puts forth his maximum effort. Through concerned and positive leadership, I will help him develop a strong sense of pride, self-respect, confidence, and a greater level of physical and mental endurance.

He is about to undergo a rigorous training cycle that will test him both physically and mentally. The first phase of training will take place here at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California. His training here will consist of: physical training, close order drill, and an introduction to military life. In addition, he will receive numerous classes on Marine Corps history, first aid, military customs and courtesies and military law.

The second phase of training takes place at Camp Pendleton, California, and consists of rifle marksmanship, field skills training and the "Crucible" event. During this period he and his fellow recruits will have attained a higher level of teamwork and esprit de corps through shared hardship.

The third phase of training will bring your young man back to MCRD. Upon returning to MCRD, the last four weeks will consist of final events such as water survival qualification, close order drill evaluation, batallion commander's inspection, physical fitness test, the practical examination of military subjects, and graduation. Your young man's graduation date is April 7, 2006.

Your young man will be facing many obstacles and may experience periods of frustration, especially during the first phase. Positive and encouraging letters from relatives and friends will greatly contribute to his morale and attitude. High morale and a positive outlook are assets for a solid foundation and attribute to successful training. Your role in maintaining his morale and motivation can benefit his positive development.

Please be aware that initially your mail may take a little longer that the normal 2-3 days to reach your young man because the Company is just forming. On the same token, you may not receive many letters from him during the first week of training; he will be very busy.

Again, I assure you that your young man is in good hands. My team of Drill Instructors and I will always use positive and concerned leadership in the course of training and developing your future Marine. Your role is greatly appreciated in helping to encourage and motivate him through letters.

Zac's First Letter

We just received Zac's first "official" letter from Boot Camp! How exciting!
It came as a form letter. He put our names on the top line and signed the bottom. I've never been so excited and proud of a form letter before in my life!!!

Here's what it said:

  1. "I have arrived at MCRD San Diego and have been placed in my training platoon. I am fine and in good health. While here at recruit training I am not allowed to receive certain items such as vitamins, alcohol, pornographic material, gambling devices, tobacco products, and combustibles. Please do not send ANY packages (i.e. cookies, candy, socks, underwear, etc.) Also prescription medication cannot be sent under any circumstance. A medical officer authorized to treat recruits will provide all medication to me. While here at Recruit Training I will not need you to send any money, I earn enough to cover all expenses that will occur while going through day-to-day training here at MCRD San Diego. I apologize that this letter is short but in the beginning we are somewhat pressed for time. I promise to write more later. Sincerely, (signed) Zachary Taylor Lindsey"

We're so proud of our future Marine! Please continue to keep him in your prayers along with all of his family, friends and his platoon Platoon 3069 India Company. (Sherri, Gary & kids, David, Stephanie & kids, Marty, Julie & kids, Megan, his mom, Joe, Jerri, Ray, Barbara, Marty's parents, Grandma & Grandpa Wuensche, and all of his many cousins aunts and uncles who love him as well as friends who miss him dearly!)

Oh...and WRITE him a positive encouraging letter!

I will also post the letter from Senior Staff Sergeant Freeman.
